The Centre for Medical Informatics at the Usher Institute within The University of Edinburgh is looking for two Research Assistants to work with an interdisciplinary team of researchers on the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) for healthcare practitioners, practices and organisations.

The Opportunity:

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant to work on an exciting research project examining the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) for healthcare. The project focuses on the real-world effects of AI on clinicians (e.g., tasks, roles, skills, expertise), practices (e.g., diagnostic workflows, care delivery pathways) and the healthcare system.

The position offers an opportunity to work closely with Dr Luciana D’Adderio (the project’s Principal Investigator) and her extended multidisciplinary team including experts in the Social Sciences (Business/Management, Organisation Science/Studies, Information Systems, Healthcare Innovation), Artificial Intelligence and Medicine.

The Researcher will be based at the University of Edinburgh’s Usher Institute, a leading academic innovation hub combining a strong interdisciplinary research culture, an unrivalled focus on AI and data-driven innovation for medicine and healthcare, and an emphasis on state-of-the-art research and real-world impacts.

Your skills and attributes for success:
  • Applicants must be close to completing a Ph.D. in Business & Management or Medical Informatics
  • Experience of or willingness to engage in interdisciplinary academic teams and activities as well as with a range of stakeholders
  • Conducting empirical qualitative research including collecting, managing and analysing data from ethnographic observations, interviews and focus groups
  • Excellent academic record and work ethic
  • Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills
