This is a great opportunity for an experienced nurse educator who is interested in supporting our registered and unregistered nursing workforce to develop and grow

We have an opportunity to support our UK-trained and internationally-trained nurses and healthcare support workers to settle into life at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The role will ensure educational support for these staff, for their development within the clinical environment. Supporting them to deliver high quality evidence based care.

We are looking for a proactive, knowledgeable and leadership focused individuals who will organise, deliver and review programmes to support nurses as they transition into registered role, into new clinical settings and into our organisation.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide direct support to both newly recruited registered nurses, established RNs, and health care support workers during their preceptorship period.
  • To ensure that the registered nurses and health care support workers are supported in the safe delivery of good quality evidence-based care.

The post holder will work in a supernumerary capacity within the clinical areas (80% of time) working alongside nurses and health care support workers in delivering direct care to support the development of skills and competencies. The clinical practice educators will also deliver clinical skills teaching both within the clinical area and in a classroom, environment as required.

The role will work as a link between ward teams (ward managers and preceptors) and the practice development team to support nurses and health care support workers both individually or as teams to develop their clinical skills.

The Clinical Practice Educator plays an important role in providing support to our nurses and newly registered nursing, midwifery and AHP staff within the organisation. The role aims to facilitate and develop the clinical skills of individuals through empowerment, education and assessment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC registration educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of nursing education and development
  • Established practice assessor/supervisor (or equivalent)
  • Evidence of significant ongoing professionaL/leadership development
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching/education qualification
  • Professional advocate certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in a band 6 role within an adult acute nursing field
  • Experience supporting learners (of all levels) in practice
  • Experience in delivering and evaluating training or development programmes to support nurses across a range of roles
  • Experience in teaching or presenting to others
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of managing change
  • Experience of quality improvement projects

Skills and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate knowledge of care quality commission regulations and key national NHS drivers
  • Knowledge of wider professional issues and national agenda
  • Demonstrates an understanding of key issues impacting our newly registered nurses
  • Demonstrate ability to lead by example and to motivate and empower others
