We are looking to recruit a Fire, Health and Safety Training Officer to advise on the measures for fire prevention and fire fighting in accordance with the Department of Health Firecode at all premises administered by the Trust.
The postholder will also be responsible for developing, maintaining and delivering a fire training programme for all Trust employees.
Main duties of the job
The Fire, Health and Safety Training Officer will :
- support the delivery of the Trust’s Fire Safety learning agenda in line with the strategic direction of the Trust and supporting organisations and to support the Estates & Facilities directorate health and safety training.
- assist with the Trust’s response to external inspections/accreditation visits, including the preparation of reports/action plans and subsequent progress reports in relation to Fire safety Training.
- ensure all members of staff are supported, monitored and provided with relevant updates on a regular basis.
- ensure that staff attending Fire Awareness, Fire evacuation and Fire Drill training are able to demonstrate an acceptable level of Knowledge.
- support the Fire Safety Manager to ensure the Trust meets Statutory, HTM and non- statutory fire safety responsibilities in relation to legislation and associated building regulations.
- provide basic Health and Safety training and tool box talks to the Estates & Facilities Directorate such as manual handling training and step ladder / working at height.

Person specification
Experience
Essential criteria- Must have a minimum of 2 years experience of working in a training environment with evidence of preparing and delivering training
- Postholder must have experience of application of fire safety legislation and implementation of supporting strategies to safeguard the Trust’s premises and the patients, visitors and staff of the organisation.
- Experience in the delivery of training either face to face or via teams
- Work experience in an NHS environment
Skills
Essential criteria- Good communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Computer literate with thorough understanding of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
- Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative and set priorities with minimal guidance
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety and use of risk assessments
- The ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of fire safety legislation and regulations appropriate to the Estate is essential
- Be prepared to undertake any training to meet the development of the post
- Knowledge of health service organisations and structures, security systems, project management, risk assessments.
Qualifications
Essential criteria- Good standard of general education.
- Training in fire safety
- IOSH / NEBOSH Certificate in Health and Safety
