Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it.

Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.

Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.

Job overview

This is a new research fellow post and is aimed at candidates who have experience managing research projects in the field of work and (occupational) health research. The post holder will join a research team and will manage and coordinate the Supply chain Health INitiative Evaluation (The SHINE study).

There will also be opportunities to assist with developing and writing further grants to support the delivery of future work and health studies. The postholder will work in the Occupational Health Service at St Thomas Hospital.

The post holder will need to have solid study manager skills and experiences in the context of work and health research.

Main duties of the job

The main duties will include: 1) To take a lead role in managing and coordinating the set-up and delivery of the Supply chain Health INitiative Evaluation (The SHINE study) study; 2) To take a lead role in preparing the study documentation for submission to the Research Ethics Committee; 3) To assist with setting up participating sites and providing ongoing support to ensure smooth implementation of the study; 4) Organise and manage Collaborator and Study Steering Committee meetings; 5) To construct a research database and maintain the collection and storage of data and to assist in analyses and interpretation of results; 6) To be a key member of a multidisciplinary team involved in development of research studies within the London Centre for Work and Health and wider occupational health specialty; 7) To maintain strong collaborations across the NHS and other external research groups.

The post holder will join a busy and dynamic OH research team located in one of the largest NHS OH services in the UK. The research team are actively leading on a large number of work and health research studies taking place around the NHS and in non-NHS setting.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a new research post and is aimed at candidates who have experience working in the field of occupational health research. The post holder will manage and coordinate a National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) funded study (Supply chain Health INitiative Evaluation (The SHINE study) and assist in developing and writing further grants to support the deliver of future OH studies.

In addition, the post holder will be expected to assist in other relevant research studies on the UK Clinical Research Network (UKCRN) portfolio where Occupational Health Service is taking part as a participating centre.
  1. Duties and Responsibilities
 A.  Summary of Post
  • To take a lead role on managing and coordinating key components of a National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) funded study (Supply chain Health INitiative Evaluation (The SHINE study),
  • Assist in developing and applying for appropriate external research grants
  • To communicate findings, ideas and results to the wider occupational health field
  • To work as part of the Occupational Health department, providing scientific or technical support whenever necessary
  • To be a key figure in the development of future clinical trials
  • To strengthen research collaborations between the Occupational Health departments and other departments interested in OH research
Specific Duties
  1. To take a lead role in managing and coordinating the set-up and delivery of the Supply chain Health INitiative Evaluation (The SHINE study) study, including assisting the research team in developing a new health and wellbeing intervention.
  2. To take a lead role in preparing the study documentation for submission to the Health Research Authority (HRA)
  3. To assist with setting up participating sites and providing ongoing support to ensure smooth implementation of the study
  4. Organise and manage Collaborator and Study Steering Committee meetings.
  5. To construct a clinical database and maintain the collection and storage of data from own experiments and to assist in this aspect and the interpretation of results for others’ experiments.
  6. To be a key member of a multidisciplinary team involved in development of clinical trials for occupational health
  7. To maintain strong collaborations within the Trust, but also with OH and other experts around the world
