As a member of the podiatry team, you will be supported to develops skills to enable you to undertake a complex multi-functional role combining clinical and professional duties and responsibilities to manage a large caseload of patients with diverse needs in a community setting.

Are you a qualified Podiatrist or newly qualified Podiatrist? An opportunity has arisen for a Podiatrist to join our team in Walsall Community Podiatry.

Walsall Community Podiatry services offer care to patients at risk who suffer from metabolic, vascular or neurological disorders, e.g. diabetes that place the lower limb in a compromised situation.

We are seeking a Podiatrist who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who is able to work on their own as well as part of a team. A commitment to patient care to assist patients to achieve their potential is essential. You will be encouraged to take part in various CPD activities including clinical support, supportive supervision and in-house training during team meetings.

The post holder should have the ability to travel around the district.

All Podiatry staff are supported with supervision, preceptorship for newly qualified staff, appraisals (PDP) and a comprehensive induction.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 286,700, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community.
Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities.
Work is also well underway on its multi-million pound new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre which will house a new Emergency Department (including Children’s Emergency Department), co-located Paediatric Assessment Unit, Acute Medical Unit and Urgent Care Centre.

This is scheduled for completion this year.

  • The Podiatrist, through a formal mentorship programme at Band 5 Podiatrist level, will work to develops extensive knowledge and skills, particularly in the following areas:• • Mobility and gait analysis
  • Tissue viability and wound management
  • Vascular and neurological conditions
  • Dermatological pathologies
  • Musculoskeletal pathologies
  • Immunosuppressed conditions
  • Caseload management
  • Assessment skills
  • To develop skills in the assessment, diagnosis, delivery and evaluation of individualised podiatric care packages to patients in a variety of locations including the patient’s own home.
  • Contribute to maintaining tissue viability, maximise mobility, and relieve pain especially for patients with factors which place them at risk due to a variety of medical, structural and social needs e.g. diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, chronic systemic disease immunosuppressed, congenital abnormalities etc.
  • Under the supervision of a Senior Podiatrist further develop investigative and analytical skills to assimilate and prioritise information in order to develop individual treatment plans based on clinical need and determine priority and risk status to facilitate caseload management.
  • Develop decision making skills to identify when patients require the intervention of other professionals e.g. Primary Care Teams, Tissue Viability Nurses, Musculoskeletal Team, Specialist Podiatrists, Orthotists etc.
  • Carry out minor surgical procedures using local anaesthesia, under the direct supervision of a Senior Podiatrist
  • To be an effective part of the Podiatry Team adhering to Podiatry Service and Trust policy, procedures and strategy.
  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary team network requesting the support and intervention of others as appropriate.
