Job overview
We are currently looking to recruit a Housekeeping Supervisor who is able to motivate individuals to undertake the cleaning within the hospital, provide our inpatient service users with food and beverages at meal times and help to maintain a high standard of food and hygiene standards to our sites and departments.
This is for a fixed term contract of six months whilst our current supervisor is on a career break.

Main duties of the job
As part of a small supervisory team, to support and lead day to day housekeeping and linen service at Southmead Hospital.
As part of a team, ensuring high standards of cleaning are maintained in line with the National Specifications for Cleanliness in the NHS, thereby ensuring that the hospital is clean and fit for healthcare.
To work as an integral part of the Facilities Team ensuring a high quality service to Service Users.
To support ward staff in the delivery of protected patient meal times.
To ensure the provision of a hospital linen service to all wards.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- Assume responsibility for the daily allocation of Housekeepers and Catering Assistants to provide a cleaning service in departmental areas and the provision of a cleaning and catering service on wards and central areas. The Ward and central service includes the receipt, storage, handling and regeneration of Frozen Meals and the presentation and service of meals/beverages to Patients.
- To monitor the quantity and quality of linen delivered to Wards and Departments, adjusting linen quotas as necessary and identifying and reporting quality issues.
- To participate in activities to support the Hotel Services Team and Nursing Teams as agreed or as requested by the Facilities Operational Manager e.g. organising the collection of meals, ordering, distribution, of non-clinical supplies, monitoring the use of non-clinical supplies and organising the collection/delivery of associated equipment.
- To ensure that standards of hygiene, compliance with legislation and Trust Policy are maintained in all areas.
- Planning and organizing of cover to ensure that the maximum level of cover is provided from the staff available.
- Maintain official records, including time, sickness and holiday records for Housekeepers, Catering Assistants and other designated staff within the Hotel Services Department.
- To assist the Senior Hotel Services Supervisor / Facilities Operational Manager in the recruitment of Hotel Services staff as required. To ensure compliance with Trust Policy.
- To participate in providing initial and ongoing training for Hotel Services staff as required. To assist the Senior Hotel Services Supervisor / Facilities Operational Manager to review all Housekeepers in relation to competencies, training needs and career development. To maintain records of such training.
- To regularly check departmental machinery and equipment and report defects, ensuring that it is maintained in a clean and safe condition. Also to report the need for any structural and fabric repairs.
- To ensure at all times that good hygiene practices are followed in line with Assured Safe Catering and Trust Policy.
- To participate in and undertake regular Audits relating to the Cleaning Specifications/Schedules.
- To act as site contact for pest control issues, liaising with the contractor and to maintain records, ensuring that the Facilities Operational Manager is aware of related issues.
- To undertake housekeeping duties as necessary.
- Maintain client and staff confidentiality at all times.
- To maintain client and staff privacy and dignity at all times.
- Liaise with the Facilities Operational Manager and / or Senior Hotel Services Supervisor, team colleagues, Ward Managers and other ward staff, departmental staff, or other agencies as required or requested by the Facilities Operational Manager.
- Demonstrate effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrate an awareness of the need for sensitivity, tolerance and impartiality.

Essential criteria- Education / Qualification - Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
- Experience and Knowledge - Literate Numerate,
- Experience and Knowledge - Able to work on own initiative and unsupervised and also as part of a team
- Experience and Knowledge - Previous supervisory experience in a cleaning/catering environment
- Experience and Knowledge - Previous experience of Audit
- Experience and Knowledge - Previous experience of Training staff
- Skills and Abilities - Basic IT Skills
- Other Requirements - Empathy for individuals who have experienced mental health problems and ability to cope with behaviour which may be challenging at times.
- Education / Qualification - Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate

- Skills and Abilities - Full and clean driving license
- Skills and Abilities - Previous experience working in a Hospital environment
