Applications are invited for the post of Team Lead Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist within a school based team, working alongside a band 6 Speech and Language Therapist and admin support.
The team is funded by a Service Level Agreement from Merthyr Local Authority to provide collaborative support to specialist education units.
This role is categorised as ‘Welsh Desirable’ in Speaking/Listening meaning that whilst the candidate doesn’t need to have skills in Welsh, we’ll consider it an advantage when short-listing candidates. Level 3 in Speaking/Listening means being able to hold a conversation in Welsh about everyday things and every day work matters.It isn’t about being ‘fluent’ or writing long reports in Welsh. Just everyday, conversational Welsh so that you can talk to patients in Welsh and English. Maybe you went to a Welsh school but may be underconfident, or haven’t used your Welsh for a while.

Main duties of the job
The school based team of Speech and Language Therapists will work collaboratively with Education to provide support to pupils with a range of complex communication difficulties including those with ASD diagnoses in school settings across Merthyr Tydfil.The primary focus of the service will be to provide education and training to school settings combined with a consultative model of service delivery and an element of working with individual children.
The Team Lead will require the skills to manage a small team and to engage with schools, providing support and evidencing outcomes and working within the new Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act. The postholder will provide managerial supervision for staff within the team .
Cwm Taf Morgannwg SLT department are a friendly and compassionate team who place a strong commitment to supporting staff wellbeing, supervision and continued professional development.
The children's SLT service has a range of clinical specialists available for support and second opinions and staff are fully supported by a line management structure, Paediatric Team Leads and an Admin Team.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria- SLT Degree
- HCPC Registration
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of education based speech and language therapy services.
- Portfolio including extensive CPD and clinical experience of a wide range of multifaceted communication disorders.
Experience
Essential criteria- In depth knowledge and experience of using highly specialist interventions for children with SLCN.
- Experience in working as part of a team and providing advice to a range of other professionals and agencies.
- Experience of partnership working with other agencies.
- Evidence of line management of SLT staff.
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria- Evidence of providing presentations to groups.
- Able to analyse complex assessment information and make highly specialist clinical decisions.
- Ability to provide clinical leadership.
- Welsh is desirable at Level 3 or above in speaking / listening
