Specialist Doctor in General Medicine - Outlier Team/Virtual Ward
This is a new team which has been created to promote early discharge to the virtual wards and alternative health care pathways and support. This post also has responsibility of managing the medical patients based on the surgical wards with the team.
The post holder is envisaged to become an advocate and innovator with the team for promoting and supporting early discharge. This post has potential to also have an understanding of holistic/lifestyle medicine and social prescribing to encourage patients to self manage once discharge to reduce readmission.
Where as the majority of this role will be ward based opportunities will be made available should the individual be interested in a specific specialty.
This post will be part of the middle grade rota and involve out of hours working.
Main duties of the job
Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of General Medical patients
To prepare and manage medical patients placed on surgical wards.
Monitor and offer advice for those on the virtual ward
To focus on early discharge to the virtual ward/Acute Care at Home etc
Actively encourage and innovate alternative methods of support to encourage early and safe discharge from the medical wards
Teaching and training of junior staff and medical students where applicable.
To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
To attend meetings as appropriate.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
Experience
Essential criteria- Teaching (Medical students, Postgraduates, MDT).
- Experienced in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance and the benefits of how this improves the quality of care provided to patients and ensuring this is embedded in clinical practice.
- UK NHS Experience
