Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspection and Testing: Conduct regular inspections and testing of fire alarms, extinguishers, sprinkler systems, and emergency lighting to ensure compliance with local fire safety regulations and standards.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Carry out preventive maintenance, diagnose and repair faults, and replace or repair defective components in fire protection systems.
  • Installation: Install new fire protection systems and equipment according to design specifications and regulatory standards, and upgrade existing systems to meet current safety regulations.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records, provide detailed reports on the status of fire protection systems, and ensure compliance documentation is up-to-date and accessible.

This role is being offered on a full time basis working 40 hours per week. This is a field-based role covering the Exeter and Somerset area.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable groups. Appointment to this role is subject to a satisfactory basic DBS check.

About The Candidate

To be successful in your application for the role of Fire Servicing and Maintenance Engineer, you will have the essential skills and experience for a level 1 role (please see candidate information pack) and the following role specific skills and experience:

  • Strong technical and mechanical skills.
  • Knowledge of fire safety regulations and standards: BS5839/BS5266/BS7671.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Keeping up-to-date with the latest technologies, regulations, and best practices in fire safety through ongoing training and professional development.
  • FIA (Fire Industry Association) Training: Various courses and certifications are offered by the FIA, including fire detection and alarm systems, emergency lighting.
  • Current BS 5839 and BS 5266 Certification: Understanding and complying with these British Standards for fire detection and emergency lighting systems is a requirement. Practical experience through apprenticeships or working under experienced engineers is crucial.
  • Vocational training or certification in fire safety engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in fire protection system maintenance and servicing.
  • Relevant certifications such as NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies), FIA (Fire Industry Association), or equivalent.
  • Full, valid UK Driving Licence.
