A rewarding role has arisen for 2 substantive posts of an Enhance Care Clinical Specialist Nurse in West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospital (WHTH).
The Enhance Care Clinical Specialist Nurse will be part of the Enhance Care Team delivering timely quality care to patients within the trust.
We welcome applications from staff that are already on the NMC register with relevant experience in acute Mental Health inpatient settings.
The Enhance Care Clinical Specialist Nurse will be part of an MDT with partner agencies involved in the delivery of care to our patients.
You need to be a passionate role model in delivering compassionate care to our acutely unwell mental health patients presenting to the trust and keen to develop and build on your management and leadership skills.
You will support the Enhance Care Team & Mental Health Matron to lead the management and delivery of timely mental Health assessment, support & care, emphasising on relational security within trust, such as providing patient with choice, collaboration and transparency with a trauma informed care approach.
The post operates a shift rota system, including weekends and twilights. You will receive staff induction, in-house training, regular supervision and personal development reviews.

Main duties of the job
The Enhance Care Clinical Specialist Nurse is responsible for delivering outstanding patient care, and commitment to least restrictive practice and acting in the patient’s best interest.
Ensure that everyone is treated with dignity and patient’s needs are met in a timely manner. The focus of the role is to bridge the gap and supplement provision of mental support from the Mental Health Liaison Team (MHLT).
To complete trauma informed psychosocial mental health assessments and develop safe and effective collaborative plans of care with MHLT for patients within our emergency department and wards.
Provide compassionate and trauma informed care.
The service is dynamic and fast paced and the role, therefore, requires timely assessment & the provision of a responsive service, perseverance, resilience, and the ability to work collaboratively with acute hospital colleagues and mental health liaison colleagues to achieve the best outcome for our patients.
To work with ED/ wards colleagues to ensure the clinical and operational delivery of mental and acute health care within WHTH.
Responsible for the effective day-to-day management of clinical & operational issues for all mental health and neurodiversity patients in the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Enhance Care Clinical Specialist Nurse will develop strong professional relationships with the Trust, MHLT/CCATT and key clinicians in HPFT to ensure good lines of communication between the Trust and the mental health practitioners.
Act as a key point of contact and liaison for HPFT staff for operational and clinical delivery of mental health care for patient within WHTH.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills across agencies.
To work closely with HPFT, mental health commissioners and the wider health system to ensure best care for patients with mental health and complex social need.
To generate and sustain relationships that promote dignity, diversity, rights and responsibilities across mental health and wider networks.
Communicate regularly with the Trusts Mental Health Matron regarding operational team to ensure mental health / complex needs patients are in appropriate beds and ensure good patient flow across the Trust.
Communicate and escalate to the Trust Mental Health Matron any issues with bed management / patient flow involving mental health / complex needs patients.
Attend all relevant MDT meetings for mental health patients on behalf of the trust to ensure delivery of best care and treatment in the most appropriate setting – ensuring the patients’ needs and wishes are considered.
Work towards ensuring clinicians treat patients holistically considering both physical and mental health needs and that these are often interlinked.
Communicate and work across the wider health and care systems and ICS to ensure best outcomes for patients experiencing mental health crisis.

Education and qualifications
Essential criteria- Registered Adult Nurse
- Registered Mental Health Nurse
- Master’s degree
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Knowledge of evidence based contemporary mental health practice
- Knowledge base of holistic dynamic risk assessment and management
- Good understanding of the impact of physical and mental health co-morbidities
- Expert working knowledge of Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act and DOLS
- Have knowledge of the range of services available for individuals locally.
- Awareness of a range of evidence-based interventions
- Awareness of the value of research / audit and quality improvement.
Experience
Essential criteria- Demonstrable experience of successfully triaging and leading initial mental health assessments in an acute setting.
- Demonstrate working experience of a range of assessment tools for a range of mental health conditions
- Previous experience of working effectively with other disciplines
- Experience of delivering training / teaching to other professionals.
- Experience of managing mental health patient in crisis, including management of challenging behaviours, uses of de-escalation and restrictive intervention such as PMVA.
- Experience of recruitment and selection of staff.
- Experience of supporting individuals who misuse alcohol or drugs.
