We are currently looking at hiring a Registered Mental Health Nurse for Alumhurst Ward to cover 12 months of maternity leave. Alumhurst Ward is a 20-bedded Older Persons functional ward.

We are a well-established, highly motivated and friendly team. We have a team of experienced nurses with a wide range of skills and pride ourselves on providing excellent care to our service users.

The Trust runs excellent development courses, which you can attend to learn and hone your skills. Your continuous professional development will be planned and tailored to your needs together with support to achieve the personal goals set via annual appraisal and you will receive regular clinical and management supervision.

We would welcome applications from newly qualified nurses and we provide a very comprehensive and fully supported preceptorship programme for newly qualified healthcare professionals.

This is a fixed term role and for those with current NHS service, the role will be offered on a secondment basis only. Please obtain permission to be released on a secondment before submitting an application.

Main duties of the job

As a staff nurse you will be leading and co-ordinating shifts, attending ward reviews, administering and dispensing medication, providing advice and support to the team you are on shift with daily and leading by example in looking after our patients.

You will also conduct your duties with care, consideration and kindness towards others in line with your NMC registration requirements.

The management team on Alumhurst are passionate in educating and developing staff in continued professional development and want you to succeed in your career. You will have regular supervision with your dedicated supervisor and an annual appraisal where you can also identify any training you would be interested in.

You will be required to undertake a Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression course and it is a condition of your employment that you successfully complete all aspects of this course; if this is not achieved you will not be able to commence working in the post.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Knowledge, skills and training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (Mental Health)
  • Preceptorship or working towards it
  • Ability to take charge of a ward/case load regularly
  • Job specific experience
Essential criteria
  • Ability to supervise other staff

Managerial/supervisory experience

Essential criteria
  • Supervised experience gained during clinical placements
  • Ability to mentor students

Information Technology

  • Basic IT skills, normally obtained through practice or practical training
