Kitchen Assistant

Burstow is a happy two form entry village primary school in Smallfield, Surrey, which joined the Everychild Partnership Trust in May 2024. We are a friendly school with a great team ethos working together to achieve high standards in school whilst having fun.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our catering team to assist in the delivery of an exceptional school meal service.

We are looking for a new Kitchen Assistant to help with service working:
  • Monday to Friday
  • 18.45 hours a week
  • 9.45am – 1.30pm during term time only.

Please note that this means holidays are not permissible during term time.

If you work well in a team, have a high standard of personal hygiene and a flexible attitude, then we’ll provide you with all the training you need. Previous catering experience and a food hygiene certificate would be great but are not essential.

What you will need is enthusiasm, commitment and the desire to achieve the best. You must be able to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment.

ALL STAFF ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A DBS CLEARANCE.
Job Purpose

To assist in the preparation of food and clearing of school meals

Duties will include:
  • Provide porter support in the delivery and clearing of school meals.
  • To assist in the preparation of the school hall if required.
  • Wash plates, bowls and cutlery as well as cooking and service items.
  • Undertake daily clean of kitchen and equipment in accordance with the cleaning schedule.
  • Keep the storeroom clear, clean and tidy.
  • Contribute to stock taking as required.
  • Provide porter support with deliveries which may involve lifting heavy items.
  • To keep refrigerators and freezers organised.
  • Report failing equipment to Catering Manager.
  • Report health and safety hazards to Catering Manager.
  • Communicate politely and effectively with colleagues in accordance with the school code of conduct.
  • Carry out other duties as requested by the Catering Manager, to include food preparation as required.

Salary: SP1/2 £9862.77 Actual Salary (£22,599 FTE)
