Head of Science (Senior School)
The Head of Science will play a key role in shaping the curriculum, driving innovation, and promoting academic excellence.
In this position, you will lead and inspire the Science department, fostering a collaborative and innovative teaching environment. You will manage departmental budgets, resources, and staffing in alignment with the school’s strategic goals, while conducting regular performance reviews and providing professional development opportunities for staff.Overseeing the design and implementation of a robust Science curriculum is crucial, ensuring it meets the needs of all students and is updated with current scientific advancements and best practices. Collaboration with other departments to integrate cross-curricular themes and projects will also be a key responsibility.
You will promote high standards of teaching and learning across all Science subjects, including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, while implementing assessment strategies that support student progress. Encouraging innovative teaching methods and technology to enhance student engagement will be essential.Additionally, you will foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity and inquiry, providing guidance and support to students in their academic and career aspirations in science. Organising and promoting extracurricular activities, such as science clubs, competitions, and field trips, will further enrich the student experience.
Building strong relationships with parents, guardians, and the wider community to promote the Science programmes is vital. You will collaborate with local schools, universities, and industry partners to enhance educational opportunities and participate in school leadership meetings to contribute to the overall strategic direction of the school.
To qualify, you should have a degree in a relevant Science discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related field), QTS, and significant experience in secondary education. Previous leadership experience in an educational setting is highly desirable, along with strong knowledge of the UK national curriculum and assessment frameworks.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
