Speciality Doctor Oral Surgery
Job overview
Due to expansion within the Oral Surgery department, we are currently recruiting a Specialty Doctor (Dentist). This is an exciting new post to join two existing Consultants in Oral Surgery within the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics at Hereford County Hospital.
This part time post (2 days / 5 pa) provides excellent surgical experience, teaching and supported opportunities for learning.
Main duties of the job
The Speciality Doctor is expected to participate in all aspects of the work of the department under the general direction of the Consultants, including out-patient clinics, day surgery operating sessions as well as the care of inpatients varying from dentoalveolar surgery to general oral medicine.The Specialty Doctor will be well supported by senior cover from the Consultants in Oral Surgery. There is no on-call commitment attached to this post.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria- Full GDC (United Kingdom) registration with a licence to practice
- Minimum 3 years full-time service since first obtaining registration, ideally including adequate experience as a Dental Core/SHO or a higher grade in Oral Medicine, Oral Surgery or Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
- BDS or equivalent Degree
- Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons/Faculty of General Dental Practitioners MFDS/MJDF/MFGDP
- Active NHS Primary Care Dental Performer status
- Successful completion of a Deanery-approved Dental Core Training program
- Additional post-graduate qualifications, e.g., MSc/MClinDent/DDS/ PhD
- On, or eligible for, the GDC Specialist list in Oral Surgery
- CBCT reporting qualification
Clinical Skills & Experience
Essential criteria- Experienced in the diagnosis and management of all common oral surgery and benign oral medicine conditions
- BLS Resuscitation Certificate
- Knowledge and Understanding of IV Sedation Practice in the United Kingdom
- Breadth of dental experience in and outside specialty
- Diploma in Dental Sedation, SAAD training in conscious sedation, or equivalent
- Experience providing outpatient treatment under IV Sedation
- ILS/ALS Resuscitation certificate
Quality Improvement
Essential criteria- Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
- Involvement in Clinical Audit/ Quality Improvement
- Experience of implementing evidence based change to improve patient care
- Experience and evidence of leading improvement activities
