We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, innovative Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist to lead our ColchesterInpatients Surgical and Oncology Therapy Team.

You will have excellent communication skills, plenty of initiative and enthusiasm with the ability to work autonomously and as a part of the wider MDT.

As a Band 7 Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist you will have the opportunity to develop your own supervisory and management skills through supporting and supervising junior therapists, students and/or therapy support workers. You will have a strong focus on quality improvement and education within the acute medicine setting.

To play a specialist role in the advanced assessment, treatment and clinical management of patients on surgical wards. To develop and support the team over these clinical areas. To facilitate and support a multi-professional team approach over these clinical areas.

To work with the Clinical Lead Therapist to develop the service. The post is responsible for a team of staff in their clinical area

You will need excellent clinical and leadership skills as well as a keen interest in research. A flexible approach and excellent team working, organisational and time management skills are essential. You will need experience working as a qualified Band 6 or 7 Occupational or Physiotherapist therapist within the acute hospital setting.

  • play a specialist role in the advanced assessment, treatment and clinical management of patients on surgical and oncology wards
  • develop and support the OT/PT team in these clinical areas
  • facilitate and support a multi-professional team approach over these clinical areas
  • work with the Clinical Lead Therapists to develop the service
  • manage a team of staff in the clinical area, including OTs PTs and therapy assistants.
  • provide professional leadership involving recruitment, supervision, appraisal and support and development of staff
  • promote high standards of professional practice and the leadership of delivery of quality care within the inpatient setting.
  • maintain a high level of awareness of relevant research trends and national recommendations regarding therapy interventions

You will be required to participate in the 7 day working rota within the acute Colchester therapy teams, and if a Physiotherapist, to participate in the on-call respiratory rota.
