My clients are a very well-established and busy freight forwarder whose diverse business operates across the entire global supply chain for consumer good, including sourcing, logistics, distribution, and retail.

We are now looking for them an Import Operator temporary for 3 months initially
  • Manchester based with an element of home working – 3 days in the office
  • Monday-Friday 37.5 hours per week
  • Salary upto £30k start
  • Free parking
Purpose of Role:

Working within the busy Freight Management team, the purpose of the role is to manage specific key customer accounts relating to their freight requirements.

Key Tasks:
  • Organising the import of varied cargo by any or a combination of transport modes
  • Liaise with customers to obtain shipment authorisations
  • Monitor and manage cargo movements from origin to final point of destination
  • Ensure full compliance of appropriate legislation and regulations and all documentation relevant to the movement of cargo
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with customers
  • Provide regular communication to customers of shipment progress
  • Manage Customs processes necessary for the import of shipments
  • Resolving any customer service issues for the customer
  • Obtain rates and prepare quotations on request or on receipt of a booking
  • Maintain own P & L’s weekly
  • Prepare documents for invoicing
  • Liaising with customers to determine other opportunities for new lanes /activity
  • To perform any other duties not defined in the job description as reasonably requested / expected by the Company
Personal Qualities:
  • A methodical approach with excellent communication skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • An understanding of the importance of attention to detail and quality of product
  • A flexible hands on approach to work and willing to complete a variety of tasks
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and under pressure
  • Ability to work within a team and on own initiative
Knowledge and Experience:
  • Previous experience of international shipping process and Freight Forwarding is essential
  • Previous experience of working with Cargowise is an advantage but not essential as training will be given
  • Knowledge of import activities
  • Proficient in the use of work/excel and email
  • Previous administrative experience is essential
  • Excellent organisational, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Previous experience of working within a fast-paced environment
