This is a very exciting time to join our hospitals in Dorset. We are in line to receive a significant national investment of £147 million to help transform our services and redevelop Poole Hospital and the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals, now merged as University Hospitals Dorset.We have been able to access these national funds because we have such a good plan in Dorset.

Main duties of the job- The post holder has responsibility for delivery of a safe, efficient and effective service at all Trust sites to ensure that they are provided with appropriate support and advice relating to the Trusts grounds maintenance.
- To work on own initiative within grounds environment at all Trust properties in line with instruction and training given.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- Grass cutting, edging, and strimming.
- Carry out hedge cutting and pruning.
- Clear weeds from beds, roads, paths and borders, fork, and hoe as necessary.
- Maintaining and replanting shrub borders.
- Planting and maintaining spring and winter bedding.
- Litter picking and removal of rubbish from all areas.
- Tidy and sweep car parks and smoking shelters.
- Salt roads and paths as required by weather conditions in-line with local procedures.
- Maintain the lake at RBH, applying treatment to the water.
- Carry out inspections of the pavements and paths to ensure there is no trip hazards, potholes, or defects. Complete the audit and report back to the head gardener.
- Carry out leaf clearance.
- Undertake training as required on new machinery and equipment.
- Carry out basic repairs and maintenance to grounds maintenance tools and machinery Plants- bedding and shrubs.
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria- Full driving license with the correct license to tow a trailer above 750Kg.
- Maintenance and the use of garden machinery.
- N.V.Q.2 Horticulture
Experience
Essential criteria- Experience in General Grounds and Garden Maintenance
- 3 years experience in general grounds and garden maintenance.
- Previous work within NHS Environment
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Familiar with use and maintenance of garden machinery including a sit-on lawn mower, leaf blower, hedge cutter, strimmer
- Health & Safety issues relating to grounds maintenance equipment machinery and chemicals
