Senior Healthcare Support Worker, Urology
- Working as a healthcare support working in the Urology centre based at St Peter's Hospital
- Carry out assigned tasks involving direct in support of and supervised by a registered nurse
- Candidates must have a minimum of six months experience working as a HCSW in the NHS and have achieved the Care Certificate in the acute setting.
- applicants will need to good communication skills, as well as IT skills and need to be kind, compassionate and caring
- To have made a contribution to reaching the Trust's vision, strategic objectives and key work programmes
- Assist in Flexible cystoscopy suite
- To maintain the highest possible standards of compassionate and professional patient care with particular attention to privacy and dignity
- Assist patients with personal care and hygiene
- Assist in skin and pressure area care to prevent pressure ulcers developing. Under the supervision of registered nurses, ensure patients are helped to move position to prevent discomfort and pressure ulcers
- Assist with catheter care and teaching
- Assist with urology clinics
- Perform Uroflow
- Perform venepuncture
- Utilise appropriate moving and handling aids to reduce the risk of injury to the patient and themselves

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- Assist registered staff in the taking and recording of vital signs as per the patient's plan of care
- Communicate to the nurse in-charges observed in a patient's condition
- Answer the telephone in accordance to the Trust's Standards for Practice and Care and refers calls to the nurse in-charge as appropriate
- Escort patients from the Urology centre/ UDOS to other departments within the hospital in accordance with Standards of Practice and care
- Report any incidents, accidents, concerns, near misses or complaints to the nurse in-charge
- Adhere to infection control policy and procedures

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Level 3 qualification
- GCSE Maths and English
- NHS Care certificate (or to be obtained in the first 6 months)
- Health & Social Care Level 3
Knowledge and skills
Essential criteria- Good knowledge of the fundamentals of nursing care
- Basic knowledge of how the NHS works
Experience
Essential criteria- Minimum of 6 months experience in a role involving care for other or providing customer services
- Previous NHS or private sector health care experience
