Pick and Place Operator

About the Role:
A well-established company in Portsmouth is looking for a skilled Pick and Place Operator to join their manufacturing team. This permanent, full-time role requires a minimum of 3 years of experience, where the successful candidate will operate and maintain Pick and Place equipment, ensuring the smooth assembly and production of high-quality electronic components.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain Pick and Place machinery, ensuring all parts are accurately placed onto PCBs and subassemblies.
- Perform routine checks, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance of equipment.
- Solder and manually assemble various electronic components on PCBs.
- Inspect and test electronic components and assemblies to ensure adherence to specified requirements.
- Perform visual inspections and conduct simple electrical tests such as continuity testing of parts and systems.
- Assemble microcircuits requiring fine hand assembly, using microscopes where necessary.
- Ensure all work is conducted in adherence to health and safety standards, maintaining a clean and organised workspace.
- Install, mount, align, and adjust components using hand and small power tools.
- Read and interpret technical blueprints, specifications, and instructions.
- Conduct life tests (burn-ins) on components, subassemblies, and assemblies.
- Monitor and operate process equipment to fabricate and assemble electronic components.
- Record and report test results, keeping accurate records of production and inspection data.
Required Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Pick and Place Operator or similar role within the electronics manufacturing industry.
- Proficiency in operating automatic and semi-automatic equipment, including Pick and Place machines.
- Strong experience with soldering, assembly, and inspection of electronic components.
- Ability to use inspection tools such as micrometers, callipers, and microscopes.
- Knowledge of Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) and aerospace electronics assembly standards.
- Familiarity with CNC machines, testing equipment, and power tools.
- Understanding of quality assurance procedures and safety regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and perform repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift up to 9 kg (20 lbs) and work in a combination of sitting, standing, and walking positions.
- Excellent communication skills, reliability, and a strong team player.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience in troubleshooting and repairing electronic components and systems.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance for machinery and equipment.
- Experience in working with robotic equipment and systems.
