Teaching Assistant (SEN Support)

Location: Swinton, Greater Manchester

Contract Type: Full-time

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive and supportive SEN primary school in Swinton. Our school caters for children with a wide range of special educational needs, including Autism, ADHD, Complex Learning Difficulties (CLD), and other associated conditions.

This role involves working closely with students to help them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally in a nurturing environment that is tailored to meet their unique needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to primary-aged students with Autism, ADHD, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and Complex Learning Difficulties (CLD), assisting them with accessing the curriculum and developing key life skills.
  • Support the individual learning needs of students by implementing personalised learning plans, including behavioural, social, and emotional interventions.
  • Assist with the development of communication, emotional regulation, and sensory integration, working closely with the school's multidisciplinary team (including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and behavioural specialists).
  • Promote independent learning and positive behaviour by engaging students in structured activities that are designed to develop social interaction, executive functioning, and self-regulation skills.
  • Collaborate with class teachers and the SEN team to deliver a holistic approach to education, ensuring each child's academic, personal, and developmental progress is consistently monitored and supported.
  • Assist with the use of specialist resources (e.g. , sensory rooms, quiet spaces, assistive technology) to facilitate a calm and conducive learning environment.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback, adjusting strategies where necessary to support the best possible outcomes for the child.

Ideal Candidate:
  • Experience working with children with Autism, ADHD, and Complex Learning Difficulties (CLD) in a school, care, or therapeutic environment is highly desirable.
  • A compassionate, adaptable, and patient approach to working with students who may display challenging behaviours or require additional emotional and behavioural support.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • A commitment to inclusive education, with a passion for helping children with special educational needs succeed in their own way.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. , Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, SEN qualifications) are advantageous but not essential, provided you have the right attitude and experience.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach, working alongside teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure every student receives the best possible support.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
