Clinical Healthcare Support Worker, Band 3- Fracture Clinic (16.5 hours a week)
To work as part of the Outpatients Department team assisting in the delivery of high-quality services under the supervision of qualified staff.
To support all staff with day to day running of services undertaken at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation trust. You will need to undertake key roles which will assist in smooth running of the department cross county service provision.
This job description outlines current duties and responsibilities; however, it is subject to review and amendment in the light of developing or changing services and as part of the annual Individual Performance Development Review.
Additional working pattern details: 08.30 to 17:30 hrs
Main duties of the job- Working in Outpatients under the supervision of registered staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- Ability to get on well with people at all levels and work effectively as a team member.
- To be responsible for working with colleagues and managers to provide a safe and welcoming environment for staff, patients and visitors
- To support cross county provision of services, working in both of the counties Orthopaedic and fracture clinics.
- Under guidance, deliver safe patient care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using equipment and resources safely and as appropriate.
- Discretion and understanding of confidentiality and data protection
- To understand and adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.
- To communicate effectively, especially where patient ability to do so is compromised. On occasions, the job holder may be exposed to distressing or emotional circumstances.
- To act as a chaperone for patients attending clinic appointments.
- Undertake specific delegated tasks following the appropriate training and competency level e.g., patient observations and patient personal hygiene, application of simple off the shelf splints and braces, remove plaster casts, record ECG, MRSA screening and venepuncture, arranging admission of patients to wards from clinic.
- To participate and contribute to team meetings/ discussions engaging with the team and participating in the ongoing development of the Outpatient Department.
- There are also opportunities to progress within the department, following appropriate training and experience.
- Will be required to work within the recognised Manual Handling Guidelines.
- May be extended to frequently manoeuvre patients/objects over 15kg using appropriate aids for short periods of time.
- Will have occasional exposure to unpleasant working conditions and will be required to follow policies and procedures pertaining to bodily fluids, infection control and COSHH regulations.
- May be required to work in confined spaces.
- Ability to work where the work pattern may be unpredictable e.g. prioritising patient demands.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- A-Levels qualifications or equivalent
- Care Certificate [Performing patient observations and required investigations within role]
- Basic IT skills
Experience
Essential criteria- Demonstrates ability to place patient and family at centre of care.
- Ability to work on own initiative at times
- Ability to recognise when to seek advice and refer to a registered health or care professional
- Participates in team working and provide excellent patient care
Knowledge/ Skills
Essential criteria- Demonstrates ability to commit to cross site service provision
- Committed to best patient service provision with fellow colleagues
- Manual dexterity
- Work within manual handling guidelines/ability to work in a busy environment
- Demonstrate motivation and enthusiasm for work and acts courteous respectful and helpful at all times
