CommunicationTo develop relationships and develop effective team working with device users and clinical leaders, in areas for which responsible for, in order to disseminate good practice in the use of and care of devices.To identify any poor practice in the care and use of devices, working with clinical staff concerned to improve their practice.To communicate in person, via the telephone and electronically with members of the team and with staff in departments across the Trust as required, ensuring that a high-quality service is provided to all users.To liaise effectively with other senior scientific and technical staff as well as senior managers in the department and users of the service on one to one or at more formal meetings.To communicate with clinical and scientific colleagues regarding appropriate investigations whenever required, utilising various modes of communication.To participate regularly in departmental staff meetings, team briefingsTo support the POCT team in organising and publicising training sessionsAnalytical skillsTo assist the POCT Coordinators in maintaining the quality management system of POCT.To take part in performing audits and other quality related activities as required by the POCT Coordinators, adopting the Best Practice principles in line with MHRS regulations and UKAS standards and other relevant regulations and guidelines.To ensure confidentiality concerning all aspects of work that involves patients or investigations on samples from patients.To participate in the administration of National External Quality Assessment Schemes and any other relevant inter-laboratory comparison (ILC) schemes and assist POCT Coordinators and Trust staff in the measurement of EQA samples.To assist in quality control procedures and quality assurance activities in the Trust through regular data collection and analysis as required by POCT Coordinators.To assist in the day to day administration of POCT users, device data collection and result processing using the different POCT IT middleware systems in use.To support the administration of the POCT user support webpages and web forms hosted on the trust MS Sharepoint and OneDrive system.To report all clinical and non-clinical incidents occurring in area of supervision promptly and, when requested by senior members of staff, to co-operate with any investigation undertaken.Participate in the quality objectives as set out in the Discipline, Directorate and Trust policies.Planning and organising skillsTo be responsible for organising their own day-to-day work tasks and activitiesTo participate in the evaluation, implementation and delivery of new equipment and techniquesTo participate in developing appropriate documentationTo work to approved standards (working towards ISO 15189) and protocols, in a safe and efficient manner so that all work is performed efficiently, accurately and on time.To ensure that the documentation is kept up to date in line with current document control standards.Responsible for stock management for POCT, including receipt of goods, rotation of stock, maintenance of records, and informing the Coordinators of any short dated products and short supplies so they can be ordered.To ensure compliance with good working practices according to ISO 15189.

Fulfil all relevant mandatory and statutory requirements.To undertake general house-keeping as specified in the SOPs and monitoring of the temperature of relevant refrigerators, freezers.To assist in planning training under direction of the POCT coordinators to medical and nursing staff in the use of point of care equipment, ensuring compliance with the Trusts Point of Care Testing Policy and procedures.To assist in the production of documents and training materials using Microsoft Office programs (Word and MS Forms )To assist in the administration of External Quality Assurance schemes, including the preparation (using Microsoft Excel and Word), distribution and result collation and submission.Ensure maintenance of CPD, and awareness of scientific and technical developments within POCT generally and especially applicable to own role.Other tasks as deemed necessary by the POCT Coordinators, commensurate with grade and status.To assist in the organization and provision of Point of Care services in liaison with key working relationships ensuring that all internal and external user needs and requirements are adequately covered.To represent Laboratory Medicine (Pathology), in the Division of Medicine across the Trust, and where appropriate externally, as and whenever directed by the POCT Coordinator.To maintain a professional image of oneself and the department whenever representing the department or receiving visitors into the department.Physical skillsWill spend significant time in the laboratory and in clinical areas.Frequent periods of computer use.There will be a requirement for a combination of sitting, standing, bending, stooping, walking, manual handling of stock and instruments.Travel between sites, and as and when required.Manual dexterity required for the handling of small and delicate specimens and quality control materials.Responsibility for policy/service developmentBring to the attention of management opportunities for quality improvement.To assist the POCT Coordinators in identifying improvements that may be used in service development and formulation of POCT policies.Responsibility for information resourcesAs commensurate with the access level of an Associate Practitioner Band 4 perform routine tasks on the laboratory computer system.To contribute to the performance of all routine housekeeping tasks on the laboratory computer system.Use Microsoft Office products including MS word and MS Excel to produce standard operating procedures and other bench based record sheets etc.To assist with data collection that may be required for audits, as directed by Healthcare Scientist staff.Responsibility for research and developmentAssist in the research and development activities as and when required.
