We are looking for an experienced and passionate Consultant Applied Psychologist (Clinical / Counselling) to join the Deaf Mental Health Service at the National Centre for Mental Health (Birmingham). The post involves the provision of specialist psychological assessment and evidence-based psychological interventions to Deaf Mental Health Service users, across in-patient and out-patient settings.

Being allied to the multi-disciplinary team in the Service, the post holder will act as a member of the team, attend meetings and offer supervision, advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to team colleagues. The post holder is also expected to provide clinical leadership within the Deaf Service alongside other senior managers or clinicians.

You will join a friendly and supportive Psychology Services that offers excellent opportunities for research, personal development and special interests, that is committed to providing training and supervision opportunities for its staff and that supports networking, exchange of good practice and peer support amongst Psychologists and members of other disciplines across the Trust.

We have an exceptionally strong and productive tradition of R & D, very well-established links with Birmingham University and other academic institutions, and enjoy excellent relationships with our clinical and managerial colleagues within the Trust.

To ensure the systematic provision of a high quality clinical psychology service within the Deaf Service across all sectors of care. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service and to ensure that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical and professional supervision and support of all other psychologists within the service for which the post holder has designated professional responsibility, including clear systems for effective recruitment, professional appraisal, and the identification of CPD needs across the service.

As a major requirement of the job, to act as a highly specialist resource to the wider professional community and to carry out audit, policy and service development and research activities and/or programmes. To propose and implement policy and service development changes within the Deaf Mental Health Service.
