The Role:To further support the pastoral care of our students and work under the direction of our pastoral team, Senior Leaders, Heads of Year to provide pastoral care, support and guidance to our students. The role will be based at the Westwood Academy.
The successful candidate would ideally have some experience of working in a secondary school or working in youth services, however a commitment to learn and a willingness to engage positively with young people.
In addition to supporting the behaviour within the school, the role will also support the promotion of high levels of attendance and punctuality of students in-line with key areas of safeguarding, well-being, and attendance. The candidate will provide support to students and liaise with key staff across the school including Heads of Years, and senior Leader, as they manage our students’ behaviour and pastoral concerns.
The Student Support Officer will work within the pastoral team to help manage case-loads of students and organise the liaison between the school, students, parents/carers, outside agencies and other professionals as necessary. Our on-going aim and commitment is to support students to achieve their full potential.
Key areas of the role will include:
- Working with the Heads of Year, other Student Support Officers and Assistant Head to provide support on pastoral and behaviour issues as directed.
- Supporting the attendance team on a daily basis to collate and input data and liaise with parents and carers regarding attendance as appropriate.
- Support students with personal, social, development and behavioural issues.
- Provide a strategic link within the pastoral team for the school, outside agencies and parents.
- Provide administration to the pastoral team, writing reports and submitting referrals to the appropriate levels of staff.
- Collecting and supervising students for detentions and other sanctions.
- Supporting with the on-call system.
- Carry out independent investigation reports on incidents involving students.
- Monitor, maintain and retain accurate records in line with data protection and GDPR.
- Support staff in the implementation of effective safeguarding procedures.
- Liaise and prepare reports regarding sanctions and rewards for the Assistant Head and pastoral team as required.
- Assist with early identification of disengagement and contribute to interventions to encourage re-engagement.
- Establish and maintain effective and supportive relations with students, parents/carers.
