This is a senior role within the organisation with assigned specialist and professional leadership acting as midwifery digital specialist when representing internal and external meetings on behalf of West Herts NHS Trust.
The post holder will have the ability to establish good team relationships and collaboration within West Herts colleagues and local maternity systems.
The post holder is responsible for working with clinical colleagues on the development, deployment, re-engineering, optimisation and integration of clinical information systems to support clinicians in the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
The focus for the post holder will be leading on the digital development in Maternity services and will be the lead midwife for digital, with ownership and responsibility for the co-ordination and collation of data with colleagues in the maternity, IT department and external agencies where required.
The post holder will work with clinical informatics, business managers and finance to assess the benefits of initiatives and local technology projects for implementation.
The post holder will lead on reporting, investigating and resolving clinical safety incidents and making recommendations and improvements to the EPR system.
Main duties of the job- As a Lead Digital Midwife, the post holder will ensure clinical practice is supported by digital technology.
- To ensure that the maternity EPR system functionality is adhered to support clinician’s professional standards.
- To support the digital agenda within the Better Births and other national maternity reports.
- Maintain competencies relating to digital leadership by attending regular updates such as local user group initiatives and the national Digital Midwives Expert Reference Group.
- Provide professional leadership including motivation of staff regarding the use of digital technology
- To promote a culture of clinical safety across the organisation
- Review, monitor and develop processes and systems to support accurate and reliable data quality for internal and external assurance, local commissioning and local, regional and national datasets.
- Ensure and maintain confidentiality and integrity of all confidential information
- Produce results and findings in a variety of formats, including reports, papers, spreadsheets and presentations.
- Utilise and interpret data to compose clinical and management audits and reports
- As a member of the Senior Midwifery Management Team, you will be expected to partake in strategic and operational commitments, including on-call provision and senior midwifery bleep holding role if required, to meet the needs of the unit and Trust.

Education and qualifications
Essential criteria- • Registered Midwife with a UK NMC Pin
- • Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience working in a midwifery role
- • Evidence of continuing professional development in digital health or related field.
- • Postgraduate qualification in Digital Health, Health Informatics, or related field.
- • Formal training in project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile).
- • Clinical Digital Risk management training to level of Clinical Safety Officer
- • Formal leadership and management qualification
- • Clinical Digital Risk management foundation course (e-learning and face-to-face session), or equivalent
Knowledge
Essential criteria- • Knowledge of clinical quality and safety strategies and implementation
- • Up-to date and in-depth knowledge of current professional issues both locally and nationally
- • Knowledge of NMC Rules and Code of Practice
- • Understanding the use of evidence-based practice
- • Good understanding of the governance process
- • Detailed knowledge of clinical standards and regulation of clinical documentation
- • Advance IT skills/knowledge; specifically, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
