apartmentNATIONAL TRUST placeExeter calendar_month
We’re looking for a leader in South West England to help us drive innovation in our ways of working. This role puts you at the heart of shaping what the Trust can deliver to meet the needs of the nation. Our work is incredibly broad, from tackling the joint climate and nature crisis to finding new utility and relevance in our beautiful places.

We want you to lead a team of specialists, embrace an ever-changing working environment, develop successful partnerships and effective teams.

What it's like to work here

You’ll be a strong voice in the Trust’s internal consultancy, a flexible resource of specialist skills and expertise. You’ll be working with others to help make things happen, a true team player, thought leader and relationship-builder.

Your contractual place of work will be the National Trust office at Killerton (nr Exeter). Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.

What you'll be doing

This is a senior management role, working across the full breadth of the Trust’s work, from wild coastlines to mansion properties. You’ll build strong partnerships within and outside the Trust, ensuring projects deliver the best possible outcomes.

You’ll manage and deploy your team, making sure things get done at pace, and you’ll broker the right resources at the right time from the right people including external specialists.

You'll also take on a variety of leadership roles for the whole region, sponsoring major projects and developing our consultancy and skills and ways of working.

Who we're looking for

We’d love to hear from you if this sounds like you are:

  • able to lead a team covering a wide geographical area, with a culture of inclusivity and diversity
  • dedicated to sustainability, tackling climate change, providing public benefit
  • a skilled communicator, who can build strong relationships within diverse teams, both within and outside the Trust
  • a flexible thinker and problem-solver, skilled at negotiating and building productive networks, and confident in using your expertise to influence decisions
  • proactive and organised, with experience of managing projects and a talent for multi-tasking and getting things done, strongly focused on detail, quality, cost and time
  • a leader for inclusion, who finds ways to create an inclusive culture
  • qualified or experienced in a specialism such as heritage, conservation or third sector environments.

The package

The National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve.

We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.

  • Substantial pension scheme of up to 10% basic salary
  • Free entry to National Trust places for you, a guest and your children (under 18)
  • Rental deposit loan scheme
  • Season ticket loan
  • EV car lease scheme
  • Perks at work discounts such as gym memberships, shopping discount codes, cinema discounts
  • Holiday allowance up to 32 days relating to length of service, plus holiday purchase scheme, subject to meeting minimum criteria.
  • Flexible working whenever possible
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Free parking at most Trust places
