About the Role

Luckley House School is seeking an enthusiastic and talented Director of Drama to join our vibrant community in September 2026. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a dynamic Drama department in a warm and welcoming co-educational day and boarding school located in Wokingham, Berkshire.

With a rich tradition in the performing arts, Luckley House School offers the ideal environment to foster creativity and inspire students to excel on stage and in the classroom.

As Director of Drama, you will lead and develop the department, guiding students of all abilities through Key Stage 3, GCSE, and A Level Drama. You will oversee large-scale productions, collaborate on whole-school musicals and cross-department projects, and deliver an inclusive and engaging curriculum that celebrates performance and creativity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide inspirational leadership to ensure academic excellence and pupil progress within the Drama department.
  • Plan and oversee the department's curriculum, including schemes of work and policies, ensuring continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
  • Direct large-scale productions, musicals, and other collaborative projects, fostering a love of drama and performance among students.
  • Manage departmental resources effectively and safely, maintaining a stimulating learning environment.
  • Monitor and support the progress of students, including those with SEND and EAL, to ensure every pupil thrives.
  • Actively contribute to the co-curricular life of the school by organising drama-related activities, trips, and events.
  • Teach across the secondary age range, delivering high-quality lessons that inspire and challenge students.
Requirements
  • A passion for drama and education, with the ability to inspire students and staff alike.
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage a team and coordinate departmental activities.
  • Proven experience as an outstanding classroom practitioner and theatre-maker.
  • Expertise in teaching Drama at Key Stage 3, GCSE, and A Level, with familiarity in the AQA specifications.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment that ensures equal opportunities for all students.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
