The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Biomedical Scientist to join our busy, friendly and professional Clinical Chemistry Team. This exciting post would be ideal for scientists with multi-discipline experience or for those looking to expand their current knowledge base.

Further training is always encouraged and supported.

This is a full time post of 37.5 hours per week across a 24/7 working week including nights and weekends.

Main duties of the job

The Biomedical Scientist will work as a key member of the team, helping to deliver a continuously improving and high quality service.

The Royal Cornwall Hospital is the principal provider of emergency, acute, specialist and community healthcare to the people of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Therefore, the post holder is expected to support the service by participating on the 24/7 shift system.

The current Chemistry Department comprises of two laboratories: an automated lab for routine and urgent work that processes approximately 3,000 samples a day using Abbott Alinity analysers with a GLP track system; and a special assay laboratory that employs a variety of methods including HPLC and ELISA to measure and monitor analytes such as metadrenalines, HbA1c, and calprotectin.

Skills

  • Able to perform complex laboratory tasks and assays
  • Able to understand and deal with abnormal results
  • Able to deal with IQC and EQA
  • Good interpretive skills
