Being a start-up business means things can change quickly, which drives uncertainty. We expect our teams to be able to adapt and respond to different types of work, broadening your experience. We know this kind of environment isn’t for everyone so consider this before applying!

Tasks

We are now seeking a senior mechanical/system engineer to further develop powertrain systems and components for our trucks. We need a passionate engineer, motivated by tackling challenging problems, proposing the solutions, implementing them and seeing them through, all the way to vehicle build and deployment in the field.

You will have a demonstrable background of delivering this work efficiently, with high levels of initiative, close team collaboration and management of yourself and others, to achieve the milestones.

The mechanical engineering activities in the role will involve design (or overseeing a colleague design) of powertrain system elements; this could involve either selection of off-the-shelf systems (e.g. EDU) and designing for their interface / integration into the vehicle or design of a system itself (e.g. HV battery cooling circuit), followed by supplier engagement and design release process.

Typically, we are integration engineering, making use of existing parts and technologies on the market, only building bespoke when necessary.

The systems engineering activities will involve understanding electric truck architecture and its powertrain elements to support the roadmap for continued truck development for new features and business targets.

This role will be part of the Powertrain Team, which covers multiple engineering disciplines of EV powertrain systems, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, electronic and control software. Other engineering teams include the Base Team, Cab Team and Production Team, which you would be closely collaborating with.

Requirements

Essential
  • Proficient design of mechanical powertrain related elements (e.g. EDU cradle/mounting, EDU output drivetrain, HV battery mounting, cooling system/ancillaries), without excessive need for support, review and redesign.
  • Proficient in CAD design, preferably with the tool OnShape, else one of the major platforms.
  • Delivery of mechanical engineering work packages, through concept design, detailed design, supplier engagement, procurement, build and validation testing on target application.
  • Good technical understanding of electric vehicle architecture and its powertrain systems.
Desirable
  • Design for production vehicle applications.
  • Experience of working in a vehicle environment.
  • Effective resolution of problems, from critical analysis of the (design, tool, method) problem to derive, converge and implement the solution.
  • Self-driven, highly motivated and quick to adopt new methods/tools.
  • Agile method of working.
