Due to maternity leave, a rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist to join the paediatric neurosciences team based at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children

As part of this forward thinking and innovative team this post will provide a highly specialist occupational therapy service to children under the care of neurosciences, including assessment and rehabilitation for children and young people with traumatic and acquired brain and spinal injuries.

You will also take the lead working with children with complex movement disorders undergoing deep brain stimulation.

You will provide a source of expertise locally, regionally and nationally. You will be a valued member of the small but specialist OT team, including supervision and development of rotational band 6 Occupational therapists.

We are looking for an innovative, inclusive clinical leader who is passionate about delivering a high-quality patient centred service.

  • To provide a highly specialised Occupational Therapy service to children referred to the neuro-rehabilitation and complex movement disorder service, assisting in the development, planning and progression of service provision.
  • To act as a source of expertise and demonstrate advanced knowledge and experience in the highly skilled management of children requiring rehabilitation following neurological insult, including acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury or functional neurological disorders.
  • To take a lead role in the management of more difficult and complex cases within a multi-disciplinary team approach, acting as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To provide clinical supervision to junior staff including direct line management of rotational band 6 occupational therapist. Support the wider Paediatric Occupational Therapy Team as required
  • To be a core member of the neurosciences MDT, providing specialist advice to other members and to provide clinical education and training to others within the trust and externally.

Bristol Royal Hospital for Children is a specialised tertiary centre, taking the most complex referrals from both local and national centres.

We are looking for an individual with advanced skills, who is confident to challenge current practice and ensure that our patients receive up-to-date evidence-based treatments. In service training programmes and staff appraisal systems are in operation to support your development to enable you to meet the demands of the post.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent abilities in IT. Excellent communication skills will result in strong working relationships with patients and their families, and the post holder will achieve excellent job satisfaction from parental feedback and the impact that this role can have on the child’s quality of life and outcome.
