Job overview
The Post holder will be responsible for the assessment of the needs, development of programmes of care, and for the implementation and evaluation of these programmes for patients and their relatives.- To provide a high standard of clinical nursing within the ward / department
- To manage a group of patients
- To take charge of the ward when rostered and assessed as competent to take on the roles and responsibilities of leadership and supervision
- To act as a role model to students and Clinical Support Workers
- To present a positive, professional image of the organisation and of the nursing team
- To ensure that all activities on the ward or department are in keeping with the Nursing & Midwifery Council's Code of Professional Conduct and the Statutory Instrument No. 873. (The Nurses Midwives and Health Visitors’ Rules Approval Order 1992).
- To follow agreed Divisional and University Hospital of North Staffordshire (NHS) Trust procedures and policies.
- To report on the condition of patients, clearly and concisely, to the Charge Nurse/Sister, nurse in charge, medical or paramedical staff and to receive and follow instructions related to patient management.
- To assist all hospital staff with procedures - maintaining patient privacy and dignity
- Maintain custody of drugs, checking and witnessing and administration of drugs and medicines within the ward, according to Trust policy
- Maintain and promote professional standards of behaviour and dress, acting as a role model to others.
- To have an understanding of the UHNS policy regarding any complaint received from a patient or their relatives.
- To participate in the maintenance of equipment, within the ward or department, with regular checking of all equipment and ensuring that repairs are performed as soon as possible.
