About Us: Bromley United Reformed Church is a vibrant and welcoming community dedicated to our mission of "Open Minds, Open Hearts, Open Hands." We are looking for a dedicated and reliable Assistant Caretaker to join our team and help maintain our busy church premises.

Responsibilities and Duties
You will be
  • dealing with a wide range of people from different backgrounds.
  • monitoring the security of the church premises, including locking and unlocking doors, and reporting any suspicious activity, ensuring the safety of the church property and its occupants.
  • ensuring good housekeeping through:
  • setting up/clearing rooms
  • regular cleaning of the building
  • tidying (litter picking and weeding) the small garden and car park area from time to time
  • identifying and reporting to the Senior Caretaker maintenance needs and assisting with general maintenance.
  • ensuring good communication within the team of staff and volunteers, and other key users of the building, particularly Bromley Homeless Charity, Bromley Food Bank and Rhiannon’s Café, attending team meetings as required
  • such other duties and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required for handover between day and evening staff and to provide cover for holidays/sickness
Qualifications and Skills
You will have
  • excellent people/customer service skills and a general understanding of/sympathy with the mission of Bromley United Reformed Church, summed up as “Open Minds, Open Hearts, Open Hands”
  • ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving furniture and equipment which can be heavy; manual handling training will be provided to assist with this
  • ability to work as part of a small team as well as independently managing priorities.
  • basic literacy and numeracy for picking up/adding messages to the communications book
  • willingness to undertake additional training required to do the job.
  • appreciation of the importance of Health and Safety legislation, manual handling, fire safety and First Aid: qualifications in these areas are useful but not essential as training will be given
  • handyman skills desirable
  • experience of similar work and of working with the public

Hours Tuesday 14.00 – 21.30 Wednesday 15.30 – 21.30, Thursday 15.30 – 21:30, Evenings and Saturdays from 8.30 – 16.30.
