Join our friendly teams within the Urgent Care Services and as a welcome to our team we will;
  • Pay the NMC for your next professional registration fee
  • Pay for your Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate and DBS Update Service annual subscription whilst you are employed with the Trust.
  • Pay any Newly Qualified nurses as a Band 4 Transition Practitioner until you receive your professional registration.
  • Offer free onsite parking at most of our bases
  • An environmental allowance is paid for working in the prison, which is £1,542, pro rate .

Main duties of the job

The postholder will work as part of an integrated team under the supervision of the specialist practioner. He/she will be accountable for the delivery of care to the population of the prison and will also rotate onto the inpatient wing.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To work within HMP Birmingham across the health care service providing 24 hour patient care
  • To develop and maintain evidenced based practice in health needs.
  • Provide support and advice to patients.
  • Participate in the promotion of healthy living and the prevention of ill health and disability through diagnostic screening, education and promotion of independence and self management as a priority of care.

Person specification

Qualifications / training

Essential criteria
  • Registration nurse (Adult Level 1 / RN1)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of collaborative working within a multi-professional enviroment
  • Ability to relate experience to a prison setting
  • Evidence of multi-agency working

Skills/knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate a knowledge of standards and audit processes and evidence based practice
  • Ability to demonstrate responsibility for self and others in respect of health & safety
  • Ability to learn & apply knowledge appropriately
  • Evidence of assessment skills and using evidence based practise
  • Ability to demonstrate sound knowledge and application of NMC Code of Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of current legislative changes effecting the NHS and Social Services particularly those affecting Primary care
