An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Respiratory Department to be part of a new team of nurses and advisors treating patients with tobacco addiction. We are looking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic and pro active individual to work within our team of Tobacco Dependency Advisors.

Main duties of the job

In line with the ambitions of the NHS Long term plan, we have launched a new Quit for Life team at RCHT. This role will support patients to be smoke free during an admission by assessing and treating nicotine dependence. For those patients who want to stop smoking, you will work with them to plan their quit attempt and arrange ongoing support on discharge.

This is an important and impactful part of care for our patients who smoke realising both short and long term health benefits.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to a GCSE (or equivalent) Grade C or above in English and Maths
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health Care (or equivalent) or relevant experience
  • Smoking Cessation Training Level 2 or willing to undertake within 3 months of starting in post.
Desirable criteria
  • Specific training in health promotion interventions.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of providing healthcare, healthcare advice or health promotion advice/interventions to patients or members of the public.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of providing support and/or counselling on a one to one or group basis.
  • Experience of supporting people with behavioural change

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to build and sustain positive therapeutic relationships
  • Ability to maintain robust patient records and service metrics
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to mentor and train colleagues on a one to one or group basis
  • Knowledge of evidence based smoking cessation interventions
