Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced midwife with excellent communication and organisational skills to join our established Midwifery Clinical Education team at Sandwell and West Birmingham (SWB).
The successful applicant will mainly be responsible for the oversight of pre-registration Midwifery Students and will work closely with our academic partners to facilitate a high quality clinical placement experience and ensure readiness for professional registration.Following qualification, the post holder will continue to offer support during the transition to professional practice through our established preceptorship program. The post holder will also work alongside our established education team to deliver multi-disciplinary professional training to qualified staff and pre-registration students.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who will be able to rise to the challenges of providing excellent midwifery education within our brand new maternity unit, based at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.
You must have some experience in education and staff development. You will be required to work both independently and as part of a small team in a Maternity and Neonatal setting delivering supported learning and assessment both in practice and in more formal settings.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful applicant will work closely with our academic partners to ensure provision of an excellent clinical placement environment for all Midwifery students within the Trust.- Support placement audits and improvements
- Provide, in collaboration with the wider MDT, clinical skills teaching for pre-registration students.
- Work with academic partners to manage placement allocations.
- Collate, analyse and report on Student feedback on placement experience to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Provide line management to students undertaking apprenticeship or post-registration Midwifery training.
- Work with the wider Perinatal Risk, Governance and Education Team to ensure learning from clinical incidents is disseminated within the multidisciplinary team.
- Support delivery of Multidisciplinary Obstetric Emergency Training (PROMPT), Basic Adult and Neonatal Life Support training and Midwifery CPD.

Essential criteria- Demonstrable post registration working in an NHS clinical setting
- Proven experience of educating and developing staff
- Evidence of change management skills
- Experience with developing Midwifery Practice
- Skills competency for suturing, cannulation, IV maintenance, obstetric emergencies (midwives only)
- Experience of Service Development Initiatives
- Skills competency for suturing, cannulation, IV maintenance, obstetric emergencies (midwives only)
- Knowledge of CNST standards and methods of achievement of the standards
Qualifications
Essential criteria- Registered midwife
- Degree level in a Healthcare related topic
- Teaching and Assessing
- Supervisor of Midwives
