An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive Consultant Urologist at Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board, which is situated in the three Country Boroughs of Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taf. The successful candidates will be based in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is one of the largest Health Boards in Wales and was formed in 2019. It is situated near of the vibrant cities of Cardiff, Swansea and Bristol and is enriched with magnificent scenery including beautiful beaches and the stunning Brecon Beacons national park.

Welsh history, culture, music and of course rugby lie at the heart of the Health Board.

At Cwm Taf Morgannwg we believe in innovation to make improvements to clinical care and we are especially proud to be hosting the development of a new Welsh-Government-funded facility diagnostic and treatment centre for South East Wales, which will be located in Llantrisant, Rhondda Cynon Taf.

The aim is to develop regional working between Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, and Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and improve care and access to services by delivering accessible, safe and innovative services.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will support an expanding clinical workforce over three of the boroughs, based at Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant and covering clinical services at Prince Charles in Merthyr Tydfil and Princess of Wales in Bridgend.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide general / core urological services and have a commitment to a 1:8 on call rota with a service desire to reach a 1:10.

The post holder will be trained in general urology and will be encouraged to develop a subspecialist interest to compliment the wider department. The department has a strong record with stone surgery, upper tract laparoscopic surgery, paediatric urology and tertiary referral andrology and penile cancer.

We treat more urological malignancies than any other Health Board in Wales and have strong links with our tertiary referral centre via supraregional MDTs.

Essential criteria
  • FRCS(Urol)or equivalent Full GMC registration

Training and experience

Essential criteria
  • Interest in General Urology. Able to undertake a general urology on call. Sees patients within a holistic context. Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients
Desirable criteria
  • Sub-speciality interest in urology

Special Knowledge/expertise

Essential criteria
  • Understands evidence-based practice. Interest in research & development. Encourages ongoing learning & an educative culture, both for self and others
Desirable criteria
  • Publication in peer review journals

Teaching skills

Essential criteria
  • Willing to supervise juniors, spots talent & nurtures it. Evidence of teaching experience. Able to operate within a teaching/training culture
Desirable criteria
  • Educational supervisor postgrad qualificaion
