Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel are looking for a committed and proactive Teaching Assistant to work in a primary school in Worthing to start in November 2024. Ideally, we are looking for someone who has experience working in a school setting. However, experience working with children in other settings would be accepted such as playscheme, sport coaching, nursery, residential homes and many more.

Also, you may have a lot of transferrable skills if you have supported adults within a care setting role such as Support Worker or Care Assistant. As a Teaching Assistant you will support pupils with Additional Learning Needs so experience supporting ALN would be desirable but not essential.

Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
  • Supporting the class teacher in managing classroom behaviour
  • Supervising group activities e.g. reading, writing, numeracy
  • Offering social and emotional support where needed
  • Preparing the classroom ready for lessons and organising resources
  • Encourage pupils to interact with the class and engage in activities
  • Establish trusting relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs and personalities
Ideal Teaching Assistant:
  • Can build positive work relationships with both pupils and adults
  • Capable of managing a group of pupils and managing behaviour
  • Previous experience supporting children in a classroom or other setting
  • The ability to demonstrate active listening skills and strong verbal communication skills
  • Able to handle situations with empathy and show understanding
