Cleaning Supervisor/Cleaning Operative

The Role

To supervise, review and support the cleaning team; monitoring cleaning quality to ensure high standards are maintained and continuous improvement is implemented throughout the College.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to join our dynamic and friendly team. In this exciting role, you will thrive in a fast-paced environment and take a leading role in supporting the strategic and operational success of our department’s goals.

The Estates Department exists to provide and maintain a high quality and safe teaching and learning environment for students. It is also vital that we provide high quality facilities to both teachers, support staff and governors in order to facilitate and maintain an outstanding working environment which is safe and secure.

In addition, we aim to constantly improve facilities, through minor and major projects of work and through the reactive, planned and preventative maintenance programme.

The Estates Department are the largest support team within the college and are responsible for: Site security, site maintenance, cleaning, reactive maintenance, planned maintenance, compliance service agreements, projects, health and safety including training, college car parking, college minibuses, fire evacuation and first aid.

The main duties and responsibilities of this role include daily cleaning of college areas, reporting maintenance repairs, ordering cleaning supplies and to undertake appropriate training as required. For the full job description please see attached ‘Job Pack’.

The Successful Candidate

Cardinal Newman College is a wonderful place to work, and this is an exciting opportunity for a enthusiastic and experienced candidate to join our friendly and well established Estates department.

The Estates department is looking for someone who has experience and a broad understanding of Health and Safety in the Workplace, has good communication skills, is able to work as part of a team, and is able to set and maintain high standards of cleaning throughout the college.

You should display the values, attitudes, and behaviours consistent with the Catholic Ethos of the College and have a commitment to equality/diversity and the safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults.

Terms and Conditions

Hours: 29 hours per week, term time plus 3 weeks.
Cleaning Operative: 14 hours per week, AM or PM shift as outlined below
  • AM: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 6.00am to 8.45am & Wednesday 6.00am to 9.00am
  • PM: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 4.15pm to 7.00pm & Wednesday 4.00pm to 7.00pm
Cleaning Supervisor: 15 hours per week, AM or PM shift as outlined below
  • AM: 6.00am to 9.00am Monday to Friday
  • PM: 4.00pm to 7.00pm Monday to Friday

Flexibility is available regarding start and finish times if needed. Please note that if you choose one shift (AM or PM) for one position, the opposite shift will be required for the other.

Salary: The post will be paid on the Sixth Form Colleges’ Support Staff Pay Spine:

Cleaning Operative: Paid at point 3 (£12.60 per hour) currently pro rata to £24,309 per annum (inclusive of £1,997 per annum living wage top up) (Actual salary £8,546 per annum).

Cleaning Supervisor: Paid at points 10 to 11 currently pro rata to £25,276 to 26,097 (Actual salary £9,521 to £9,830).
