Specialist Lower Gastrointestinal (LGI) Surgical Dietitian

To take responsibility for and manage a caseload of LGI patients receiving oral, enteral and parenteral nutritional support on the St Thomas Hospital site. To undertake nutrition ward round weekly, reviewing a complex cohort of patients on parenteral nutrition as an integral part of the nutrition team.
To work closely with the surgical MDT to ensure seamless holistic care and monitoring of patients. To attend and make an active contribution to both the surgical and Proactive care of Older People undergoing Surgery (POPS) ward rounds weekly.
To support the ongoing monitoring and development of the LGI surgery Enhanced Recovery Programme (ERP), including the development of new guidelines. Form part of the GI surgery team, which includes upper and lower GI surgical teams. To provide clinical cover for LGI dietetic clinics and home parenteral nutrition clinical in times of leave or absence.
To attend and make an active contribution to intestinal failure MDM, which is held on a weekly basis. To provide LGI specific expert advice to clinicians, patients and carers regarding provision of nutritional support for patients based on clinical evidence.

This will involve nutritional assessment, to include the calculation of nutritional requirements based on the interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometry clinical condition and other physical parameters. To initiate and participate in regular research and audit in line with departmental and MDT procedures.
