The Cancer Clinical Trials Unit at UCH is looking to recruit a Senior Research Nurses/Clinical Trials Practitioner – Team Leader for 12-month maternity leave cover in Oncology and Complex Pathways.

The Research Nurse/Clinical Trials Practitioner is an autonomous specialist working within the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will take responsibility for the co-ordination and management of a clinical research portfolio comprising in-house, national and international phase II and III clinical trials in oncology.

They will also line manage a number of staff and provide leadership and support to the team as a whole.

You will be part of an expanding and dynamic clinical team helping research staff to deliver excellent care to adults with cancer. The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination and management of clinical trials as well as education of patients and colleagues, coordination of care of patients on trials, collection and preparation of biological samples, collection of trial data, the monitoring of the expected and unexpected side effects of drugs and other treatment modalities.

The Complex Pathways post will lead the Phase II Basket Studies team, covering numerous cancer types. The ideal candidate will therefore have significant clinical experience to confidently manage the care of complex patients across many different disease areas.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in working with oncology patents as well as in clinical research, knowledge of good clinical practice, good verbal and written communication skills and experience of managing/leading teams within the NHS setting.

The Team leader will work autonomously to support the running of clinical trials across an identified area.
The role will entail clinical and management/leadership responsibilities, the ratio will be determined by the needs of the service and will fluctuate as the portfolio evolves.
  • To provide line management to a number of staff members, including, but not limited to, Research Nurses, Clinical Trial Practitioners, Data Managers and Clinical Trial Assistants.
  • To recruit patients into clinical trials as per Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • To design and deliver training to all members of the team as required
  • To support Research Managers as required.
  • To lead of projects as directed by Research Managers/Head of CCTU as required.

The postholder will lead a team of research nurses, clinical trial practitioners and data managers across the Cancer Clinical Trials Unit. They will be responsible for assessing the resources, allocating staff and overseeing the set up and co-ordination of new activity.

The post holder will also be an independent practitioner responsible for the day to day co-ordination of a portfolio of trials and patient care at UCLH

The Oncology post will be responsible for leading teams in a combination of areas in Oncology, and providing clinical support in those areas. They will also be leading the Cross Tumour team who deliver observational studies across oncology and haematology, and the Real-World Evidence data team.
