The Science Museum is a vibrant, busy and unique environment. We have large groups of school visits, unique special events, the opening of new exhibits - all taking place under one roof! We welcome over 3 million visitors per year to a building over 100 years old, this makes a dynamic environment where no two days are the same.

To ensure we provide a seamless standard of visitor experience and care, we are looking for a Duty Operations Manager (internal title) to join us.

About the role

You will have an integral part in upholding our standards and ensuring a fantastic experience for our visitors. Responsible for the smooth and efficient Museum operation, you will ensure the experience, security, well-being and health & safety of our visitors, staff and contractors.

As a floor-based manager, you will oversee and deliver Museum operations, co-ordinating prevention or responses to a range of issues. Operating as a senior manager on-site, you'll be an on-call incident manager - On an average day you could experience anything from first aid requests, providing solutions to visitor and staff issues, to coordinating a full evacuation of the Museum.

When not you're not dealing with live incidents, you will be completing thorough investigations and incident reports to provide learning and training for the future. You will have the opportunity to provide operational input on future planning, new galleries and various other projects through meetings and discussions.

You may also find yourself advising on plans for upcoming occasions such as corporate events or visits from high profile VIPs.

You will get to do all of this as part of a supportive and collaborative team. It is a role that provides different tests and challenges each day, so you will never stop learning.

Contract - Permanent, Full time 35 hrs per week

Salary - up to £37,962 per annum

About you

Whether you have a background working in visitor or customer experience or in a busy, customer-focussed environment, we are open to how you have gained your exposure to incident control, duty management or coordinating operational activity.

Your skill and approach to manage a range of circumstances is what will see you succeed.

You will be a great communicator, with the ability to facilitate effective action through others. With a positive and proactive approach to a range of risks and situations, you can lead and co-ordinate responses during incidents. With a considered and efficient approach, you can ensure that visitor safety and enjoyment is at the forefront of all decisions.

Above all, you will have a genuine desire to provide exceptional customer service.
