The Clinical Genomics laboratory at the prestigious Royal Marsden is at the forefront of innovation and research in the North Thames Genomic Laboratory Hub. As one of the seven national Genomic Laboratory Hubs in England, we're leading the way in Cancer Genomic testing.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be responsible for managing the development and delivery of a number of strategic clinical projects, including, but not limited to:
- The delivery of technology and operational projects across genomics, consisting of a complex set of sub-projects, supported by an experienced subject matter expert. You will report activity, progress, risk and issues to appropriate project governance meetings.
- Delivering projects on time, to budget and to agreed quality standards that meet business needs. The appointee will liaise with the key stakeholders, working closely with other Programme and Project Managers and Workstream Leads.
- The post-holder will be expected to play an integral role in the Genomics strategic programme delivery roadmap and Prioritisation, with an emphasis on the delivery of the initiatives that will support the strategies across the NTGLH, the RM Clinical Genomics unit and the Trust.
- The role requires a professional project management approach that involves considerable responsibility for co-ordinating business-critical clinical initiatives in accordance with customer needs, supplier capability and national and local standards and requirements. In addition to Project Management skills the Project Manager will have skills in one or more of the following areas:
- Project assurance/evaluation
- Stakeholder engagement
- Testing and systems quality assurance
- Service mapping and redesign

- Responsible for the effective delivery of key strategic Clinical Genomic projects.
- Ensure delivery of key elements against agreed milestones, budget and timelines with demonstration of success, outcomes measure and key performance indicators.
- Responsible for maintaining the project planning, including project reporting, monthly highlight reports, updating the risk logs, producing exception reports and ensuring that all work remains on target to deliver agreed objective.
- Ability to work as part of a larger team and when required independently.
- Supports and enforces the department’s strategic vision and delivers projects to support the RM Clinical Genomics Roadmap.
- Work with Project Team and end users to design changes in working practices which comply with the functionality of the system being implemented and to offer solutions to risks associated with processes.
- Work with leadership to ensure that business needs and prioritisation is met
- Work with external (and internal) suppliers to ensure effective project delivery within time, budget and agreed quality standards.

Education
Essential criteria- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
- Prince 2 Practitioner level or equivalent
- MSP qualified
- BSc in scientific discipline

At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
