Data engineer at PPL

Being a data engineer at PPL means you are passionate about public sector reform and have the technical expertise and innovative mindset to drive our new Data and Analytics Team forward.

As a data engineer at PPL, key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the delivery of analytics projects for PPL clients as part of multi-function teams working with complex datasets.
  • Developing PPL's internal use of modern analytics platforms, particularly cloud services, to improve efficiency, automate tasks, and deliver innovative analytics work.
  • Managing the end-to-end technical process of data collection, extraction, warehousing, transformation, loading, and analysis.
  • Support PPL colleagues from all teams develop their baseline data literacy and analytics skills, and their capacity to make use of modern platform and cloud-based tools.

About the role

We offer a unique opportunity for individuals to develop and deploy data engineering skills on a wide range of innovative projects aimed at improving public sector outcomes across the UK. This role is based in our London offices in SE1, and on client sites as required.

As a key member of the newly formed Data and Analytics Team, you will configure the data foundations necessary to provide a flexible, scalable, and easy-to-use data platform for diverse public sector projects. You will also provide analytical support to the Consulting team, enhancing our capabilities and supporting our clients, including the NHS and local government, with complex datasets.

The salary for this role ranges from £42,000 to £47,250 per annum, depending on your level of experience.

What we are looking for

PPL is focused on delivering consistently excellent services to our clients and the communities they serve. Being at the cutting edge of public sector reform is challenging, and we seek individuals with:

  • Proven experience in data engineering
  • Certification in cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS
  • Relevant academic background in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, or Statistics
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with ETL processes
  • Strong analytical skills and creative problem-solving abilities
  • An understanding of data privacy regulations
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Healthcare and NHS background (desirable)

  3. An in-person panel interview inc. case study at PPL's SE1 offices (approx. 2.5 hours)
