Behaviour Support Worker (Secondary)
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Behaviour Support Worker to join a committed team within the Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP) at a vibrant secondary school in Kirklees. This full-time, long-term position offers the potential for a temp-to-perm contract for the right candidate.
Role Overview
We are looking for a compassionate and proactive individual to support students with a variety of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).The ARP provides a supportive environment for students who struggle in mainstream classrooms and may experience emotional dysregulation, school anxiety, or Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA). Your role will be to provide targeted support to help students engage with the curriculum, develop crucial life skills, and flourish in a nurturing learning environment.
Key Responsibilities- Work closely with students to provide tailored behavioural and emotional support.
- Implement behaviour management strategies to enhance positive learning outcomes.
- Assist students in overcoming both academic and social learning barriers.
- Create a supportive and inclusive environment to help students build confidence and resilience.
- Collaborate with teachers, SEND staff, and external professionals to support the development and implementation of individual learning plans (EHCPs).
- Establish strong relationships with students, parents/carers, and school staff to ensure a consistent and holistic approach.
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly SEMH, ASC, SLCN, and ADHD.
- A calm, patient, and positive approach to supporting students with additional needs.
- Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and practical experience implementing them in a school setting.
- Familiarity with the SEND Code of Practice and the role of EHCPs in supporting student progress.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
- Team Teach training is desirable but not essential.
