Youth Worker - Secondary PRU

We are working in partnership with a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Chorlton that supports secondary-aged students with additional needs, including mental health challenges.
The school provides education to students aged 11-16 (Key Stage 3 and 4) who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and require tailored support due to a range of complex needs.
This is an Outreach Youth Worker role, where you will primarily be working out in the community to support students who are the hardest to reach. Many of these pupils have experienced trauma, neglect, or difficult home lives. Your role is to establish strong connections with these young people, acting as a mentor and role model to help them engage with education and support their social and emotional development.
You will play a key role in forging positive relationships with students, using a variety of mentoring techniques-similar to those used in sports, drama, or counselling-to support their learning both inside and outside the classroom. Additionally, you will support students on a more vocational basis, helping them to access practical learning and work placements.- Build strong, supportive relationships with students, acting as a mentor and role model.
- Support students in both classroom and community settings to engage in their education.
- Help students overcome barriers to learning, including emotional and social challenges.
- Use mentoring skills to encourage participation and build confidence.
- Work closely with teaching staff to support the academic and personal development of students.

- Hours: Monday to Friday (term time only)
- Prior experience in a similar setting (e.g. , SEMH, PRU, or youth work)
- Level 2 Teaching Assistant (or equivalent) is preferred
- GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) and basic computer literacy required
- Hold Right to Work in the UK
- Hold an enhanced DBS certificate registered with the online update service, or be willing to process a new application
- Provide two professional child-related references covering the last two years
