Salary: £12.20 per hour
Hours: Term-time / 16 hours per week
Contract: Part-time / Term-time only

Length of contract: Fixed-term until 31 March 2026

Black Country Living Museum is seeking a Little Makers Tutor to deliver our exciting Arts Council England funded Little Makers Key Stage 1 project, supporting children to develop their creative skills and potential through hands-on industry-inspired making.

Aiming to engage 10,000 pupils across a three year period, the Little Maker’s Tutor role is an exciting opportunity to deliver long lasting impact for Black Country based children.

What will you be doing?
  • Delivering educational content and activities appropriate for the audience needs, including being able to differentiate for specific needs across the age group.
  • Using a variety of tools, materials and IT for presentation purposes.
  • Travelling to and from local schools.
  • Activities such as classroom-based formal learning, including historical recall and the demonstration of basic D&T building skills, textile skills, art skills and music making, (training will be provided for all sessions).
  • Ensuring effective classroom management, mostly the timing of the session to ensure completion within the timescale.
  • Monitoring learning and enjoyment of participating pupils and completing a routine evaluation of sessions.
  • Preparing and packing materials required for workshops, stocktaking and quality control.
  • Organising and maintaining a prep space.
  • Occasionally tutoring for additional sessions for school groups across all Key stages when no Outreach sessions are booked.
What are we looking for?
  • Experience of administering creative workshops with children.
  • Excellent inclusive interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to differentiate to the needs of the audience and the aims of the programme.
  • Knowledge, understanding and enthusiasm for the Black Country and its history.
  • Ability to represent an organisation clearly and compellingly to external audiences, (schools).
  • Good teamwork skills.
  • Flexible, adaptive and proactive approach to work.
  • Ability to work in different outreach location working environments.
  • Previous work within schools (specifically key stage 1) or formal learning/awareness of the school industry and ways of working would be advantageous.
  • Hold a full, clean driving licence.
  • Willingness to complete a DBS check.
