Speech and Language Therapist – Foxes
Location: Minehead, Somerset.Salary: £36,775.28 - £43,645.39 (FTE £39,748.80 - £47,174.40)
Hours: 40 hours per week – Term time only/42 weeks
Contract: 12 month FTC
Welcome to Aurora Foxes, an educational establishment with residential provision. We are a specialist college and training hotel for young people (16-25years) with learning disabilities, situated in the friendly seaside town of Minehead. Foxes is a very special place, the students work at our fully operating hotel and are integrated in the community here at Minehead.

The main purpose of the role
As our Speech and Language Therapist, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the therapy service based at Aurora Foxes. Our speech and language therapists provide a high standard of assessment and intervention to young people.They provide and deliver treatment plans that work alongside the young persons’ EHCP. This role is also ideal for a newly qualified practitioner, who would benefit from clinical supervision and training from Specialist Speech and Language Therapists in the team.
Key duties- Work within a small team, managing a caseload of young people with a varying degree of needs within a special education setting.
- Undertake assessment of young people with a wide range of additional communication needs. To analyse and interpret assessment findings to recommend and deliver the best course of intervention for each young person.
- The setting offers a wide range of opportunities for practical and innovative direct therapy.
- Provide speech and language therapy interventions, as required for individuals, groups and within education, vocational and residential areas.
- Develop, implement and review individualised speech, language and communication programmes. To enable these programmes to be delivered by others the therapist will provide accessible written guidelines and training.
- Develop sound understanding of clinical governance and clinical risk and to demonstrate the use of treatment plans with an evidence-based link.
- Attend appropriate reviews and team meetings, promoting our culture of joint working with other disciplines and outside agencies.
- Liaise and work with other relevant agencies or professionals to gain and share information as required, (medical professionals, therapists, dieticians etc.), to include attendance at appointments where necessary e.g. transitions.
- To provide training to staff, carers and other professionals as and when required.
- Aurora Foxes provides regular training for its staff. Therapists also have regular opportunities to engage in peer supervision with Speech and Language therapists spanning the entire Aurora Group.
Skills and Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
Qualifications- To be a registered member of RCSLT and HCPC.
- To hold a professional Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent.
- To work within the RCSLT clinical guidelines and HCPC standards.
- Previous experience of working in an education setting as a Speech and Language Therapist or Speech and Language Therapy student.
- Experience in implementing a range of approaches in supporting young people with learning disabilities.
- Have experience in a wide variety of communication styles and can effectively overcome barriers to communication with students, staff, families and other professionals.
