Available from 05 August 2026 for a period of 6 or 12 months.

The East of England Adult Critical Care Transfer Service is recruiting Clinical Fellows (Higher), partnering with a Transfer Practitioner (Critical Care Nurse / ODP) and a dedicated ambulance and driver to undertake duty shifts. Following initial induction, training and sign-off period with direct consultant supervision, CF(H)s will undertake ongoing clinical shifts with remote supervision from Duty Consultants, with some direct supervision.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Fellow (Higher) post has been developed for anaesthetists and intensivists who have independent experience in anaesthesia or ICM specialist training programme. Transfer medicine offers a unique opportunity to apply anaesthetic, emergency medicine and intensive care skills in the care of the critically unwell patient in a remote but supported environment.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.

Clinical
  • To provide an expert critical care transfer service for patients throughout the region in need of in-transit critical care support
  • To provide high-quality, safe clinical care in accordance with GMC guidelines
  • To co-operate with other departments and agencies to meet the objectives of Transfer
  • To work flexibly within a nominally fixed timetable
Organisational
  • To supervise and support allied health professionals
  • To ensure personal knowledge of, and compliance with the Service’s and Host Trust’s policies

Essential criteria
  • Primary FRCA / FICM or equivalent qualification
  • Full Registration and Licence to Practice with GMC at time of application
  • ALS (or equivalent)
  • Clinical training to ST3+ in Anaesthesia and/or Intensive care medicine
  • Able to deal with a range of medical emergencies including providing emergency anaesthesia and airway management
Desirable criteria
  • ATLS Course
  • EPALS or APLS
  • Completion of Specialty Registrar training in the UK or equivalent with CCT including 2 years within UK; OR CCT from the training authority if completed training overseas
  • At least 5 years or more of working in anaesthesia or intensive care medicine
  • Previous critical care transfer experience
