Summary
Our client, a leading utilities company, is currently seeking an Environmental Clerk of Works to join their team on a Fixed Term Contract basis. This exciting opportunity will contribute to the construction phase of a high voltage direct current (HVDC) electrical project, set to commence in July 2025.
As an Environmental Clerk of Works, you will be responsible for ensuring environmental compliance throughout the survey and construction phases of the project. Reporting to the Construction Environment Advisor and the Project Management team, you will play a vital role in maintaining and implementing the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and project Environmental Statements (ES).
Key Accountabilities:
- Implement and enforce the provisions of the CEMP and mitigate any project environmental risks.
- Ensure compliance with licencing and other regulatory conditions.
- Provide onsite guidance and advice on environmental controls, constraints, and relevant laws.
- Review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), oversee works, and recommend necessary actions.
- Conduct regular inspections, audits, and checks against applicable regulatory requirements, planning conditions, and the CEMP.
- Investigate and document environmental non-conformances, and monitor the completion of identified actions.
- Identify trends in environmental performance and provide feedback to the Construction Environment Advisor and the wider project team.
- Contribute to incident investigation reviews and ensure implementation of resulting actions.
- Collaborate with other project disciplines, including ecologists, archaeologists, and engineers.
- Act as a champion for the project's safety, health, environment, sustainability, and quality (SHESQ) culture.
Requirements:
- Experience in monitoring construction projects' environmental performance.
- Strong knowledge of environmental compliance and constraints within construction sites.
- Auditing experience and the ability to effectively communicate findings.
- Experience in managing water impacts on construction projects and familiarity with working near watercourses and water bodies.
- Good understanding of relevant environmental laws, such as waste and oil storage regulations.
- Proficiency in various environmental controls and mitigations used in construction projects.
- Familiarity with environmental and sustainability management systems, such as ISO14001, ISO50001, ISO20400, and BS8001.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence staff at all levels.
- Well-organised, proactive, and reliable, with a willingness to travel across the project site.
Qualifications:
- Degree or Diploma in an Environmental discipline or a relevant qualification.
- Full valid UK driving licence.
- Membership in CIEEM, IEMA, or equivalent (desirable).
