Job overview
The post holder will provide a senior leadership role, taking operational responsibility for the delivery of ASD assessments, diagnoses and interventions for children referred to the 0-5 Autism assessment pathways across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, trialling and testing the impact of early identification and intervention.
The role provides opportunities to develop both your clinical and team leadership, and your service delivery and performance management skills.

- Leadership and Operational responsibility for the delivery and management of the CDC Autism assessment and intervention team within the CDC.
- Be responsible for the day-to-day management of the CDC Autism assessment and intervention team within the CDC.
- Provide expert clinical advice to system partners.
- Work in collaboration with leads in Health, Education and Social Care to develop the assessment and intervention pathways and their evaluation, with the focus on identification and system wide early intervention.
- Provide Line management for identified CDC practitioners.
- To provide highly specialist assessment, contribute to diagnosis and appropriate intervention for children in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.
- To provide specialist advice, strategies, and clinical reports for children undergoing Autism Diagnostic assessment and follow up care.
- To work collaboratively with parents/carers, sharing knowledge and skills and supporting them to develop their understanding of their child’s speech, language, and communication difficulties and how they can help their child communicate.

Qualifications/Training
Essential criteria- Holds recognised Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Children’s Nursing or Learning Disability Nursing Degree or equivalent.
- Evidence of successful completion of specialist courses up to master’s degree or equivalent, or advanced experiential training within Autism
- Evidence of Leadership or Management Training up to master’s degree level or advanced experiential training including in quality improvement methodology, change or project management.
- Evidence of participation in audit or research or user/public involvement processes.
- Holds Health Professions Council or Nursing and Midwifery Council license to practice.
- Registered member of the appropriate Professional College. Member of Clinical Excellence Networks or other professional networks

Experience
Essential criteria- Significant experience at post-graduate level working with children and young people with Autism and a range of other developmental needs.
- Extensive experience of completing autism diagnostic assessments which might include delivery of standardised assessments such as ADOS and ADI
- Extensive experience of working in partnership with education staff in early years/school settings supporting children with a range of needs
- Extensive experience at post-graduate level of using, analysing, and reporting findings from a variety of tests and formal/informal assessments.
- Extensive experience at post graduate level of sharing information about diagnosis with parents and non specialist practitioners and explaining the reasoning that supports decision making.
Knowledge/Skills
Essential criteria- Highly specialist knowledge of different Autism diagnostic frameworks and assessments, interventions and techniques and ability to evaluate and report their effectiveness.
- Highly specialist knowledge of child development including developmental norms for children 0-5 years and knowledge of how to assess children’s development
- Excellent analytical and reflective skills.
- Excellent organisation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening and empathy.
- Extensive knowledge of national policies and procedures pertinent to the child development, early years practice and early years education.
